In 1985 Leggett & Platt formed the Consumer Products Division to market its finished steel bedding support products direct to retailers. Prior to that time, Leggett had relied exclusively on bedding manufacturers and distributors for distribution of steel products. In 1991, Leggett formed the Steel Products Division which is now headquartered in Carthage, Missouri. The division markets the broadest line of steel bedding support products in the world to retailers and distributors both directly and through forward distribution utilizing an extensive network of Leggett & Platt facilities.
The Steel Products Division is made up of a group of companies acquired by Leggett and Platt that manufacture steel bedding support products. These companies have been consolidated into Leggett's existing steel products manufacturing activities. The companies acquired to form the Steel Products Division are Harris Hub, Duro, Bedline, Beautyglide, Oxford, and Western Bed.
The product line includes standard bed frames and rail systems, low profile and flotation frames and rails, angle iron and tubular rollaways, daybed link springs and pop-up units, wood and steel bed bases, mirror supports, and miscellaneous bedding hardware.
The Division manufactures in seven North American factories that support a series of company operated distribution centers located throughout North America. These distribution centers service retail furniture and department stores, sleep shops, catalog companies, and national chain stores. The Division also sells into the contract and institutional markets.
Because of its national manufacturing and distribution network and complete product line, Fashion Bed Group distributes these products as the exclusive or dominant supplier to most of the nation's largest bedding retailers. Products are sold to the retail community through a national sales organization of over 150 representatives. The Steel Products Division sells to more than 8,000 accounts.
